What GavelBot collects, why, and who it's shared with. This sits alongside our Terms of Service.
1. Who we are
GavelBot is operated by ("we," "us"). This policy explains how we handle information when you use the Service. Questions: support@gavelbot.com.
2. What we collect
- Account information. When you create an account, your email and password are handled by our authentication provider (Google Firebase Authentication). We store your account identifier, your chosen display name, and your settings.
- Gameplay and profile data. Debates you take part in, arguments you submit, verdicts, win points and ranking, the room and host context, and the country/state you choose or that we derive for rankings and location features.
- Marketplace data. If you sponsor or list, the business details, contact information, listing content, and (where you provide it) a business location you submit.
- Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number; we receive limited transaction details (such as amount, status, and a reference) from Stripe.
- Messages. Anything you send through our contact form, including your name, email, and message.
- Technical and usage data. Basic device/browser information (such as user agent), and information stored in your browser's local storage to keep you signed in and remember your session. We also keep limited logs to operate and secure the Service.
- Location. For on-site rooms and location-based marketplace features, we may use coarse location you provide or that is derived from your device, with your action.
3. How we use it
- To run the Service: stage debates, render verdicts, keep rankings, run rooms and rentals, and process payments.
- To operate the marketplace and show sponsored listings and location features.
- To prevent abuse, impersonation, and fraud, and to enforce our Terms.
- To respond to your messages and provide support.
- To send service and transactional emails (for example, confirmations) through our email provider.
4. The AI bench
Verdicts are generated by a third-party AI provider (Anthropic). To produce a ruling, the debate motion and the arguments submitted in a match are sent to that provider for processing. Do not include sensitive personal information in arguments you would not want processed this way.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the Service, under their terms, including: Google Firebase (authentication, database, hosting), Stripe (payments), our email provider (transactional email), our AI provider (verdicts), and mapping/geocoding providers for location features. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer.
List your actual processors by name here and link their privacy policies — Firebase/Google, Stripe, [email provider], [AI provider], [maps/geocoding provider]. Your lawyer can confirm the right disclosures for your audience.
6. Cookies and local storage
We use browser local storage and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember the last room you played, and operate core features. These are necessary for the Service to function. We do not use them for third-party advertising.
7. Retention
We keep information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You can ask us to delete your account, and deleting your account removes your sign-in and associated profile data, subject to limited records we may retain as required by law.
8. Your choices and rights
- You can update your display name and settings in your account.
- You can request deletion of your account and data by contacting us at support@gavelbot.com.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or limit the use of your information. To exercise them, contact us.
9. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. International users
We operate in the United States, and your information may be processed there. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., you understand it will be processed in the U.S. and other locations where our providers operate.
12. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date.
